With every passing of a new year, we make resolutions that either hold strong or fizzle out. Weight loss and quitting bad habits like smoking and excessive drinking are common, but what about more involved procedures like plastic surgery? Should one consider getting a nose job or breast implants part of a New Year's resolution to look better and feel younger? While some cosmetic surgical operations fall into the medical needs category - like rhinoplasty for improving breathing and breast reduction for relieving back pain - the "boob job" or Botox injection is normally perceived as an alternative procedure. It isn't necessary for somebody to enhance their body; it is a move often made by men and women who wish to look younger or more attractive. Diet and exercise can play a helpful role in reducing fat and toning skin, but unfortunately it doesn't always improve the fullness of a woman's breast or the shape of a man's nose. This is when plastic surgery comes into play - to shape a person's face, torso, or backside to his ideal specifications. Should somebody make plastic surgery a "to-do" for his/her New Year's resolution list? Definitely it is not something that should be decided on a whim. Think about how you look now...what do you wish to change? Maybe you want larger breasts, or a smaller nose. Perhaps you want firmer skin and fewer wrinkles, or maybe a flatter stomach. Once you know for certain how you want to look, ask yourself these questions: - Can I achieve my new look through diet and exercise, or other non-surgical means?
- Can I afford a cosmetic procedure? Depending on what you want, you could pay as little as a few hundred dollars or as much as several thousand.
- Will any operation I have be covered by insurance? A nose job, for example, could be covered if you find you need your breathing improved.
- What are the risks involved? Do you have allergies or pre-existing conditions that could hinder an operation? How long will you need to recover?
Once you have thought through your decision, consult with a reputable plastic surgeon about the job you want done. Plastic surgery is something that should be done correctly the first time, and should look great for years. You want to feel younger and happier, and cosmetic surgery can help make the new year your best yet.
