As we mature, our skin starts to thin and loses collagen. Also elasticity of the elastin fibers that are like the rubber bands in our skin diminish. As the name implies, laser liposuction uses a laser to treat that unwanted fat. We apply laser energy through small puncture wounds, which allows the laser energy to be absorbed by the fat cells. As the fat cells absorb the laser energy, they literally explode and release heat, which is very important because this heat treats the undersurface of the skin.
SMARTLIPO® is different in that it uses a carefully calibrated laser to liquefy fat deposits through the top layers of the patient’s skin. The laser ruptures the fat cells, and the resulting oily, liquid substance is then removed through a tiny incision in the skin by the surgeon. The small laser can also seal blood vessels as it zaps fat, so there is less swelling, bleeding and bruising than with traditional liposuction. Unlike other procedures where several treatments are needed, a single treatment is all that is required with Smart Lipo to accomplish your cosmetic goals. With the laser energy the skin responds to the heat released both by thickening with production of collagen and elastin formation which helps to make the skin more elastic over time. With this procedure there is often less discomfort and allows patients to see faster results and experience fewer complications.
In addition, SmartLipo patients may need only a local anesthetic or IV sedation for this procedure, whereas traditional liposuction may require general anesthesia. Because the patient is not completely unconscious, SMARTLIPO® carries much fewer risks than traditional liposuction, and the recovery time is much shorter.
After your Smart Lipo procedure, you can expect to return to your daily activities in 1 to 2 days. It’s important to remember that you must be patient, since it may take 6 months for your final results to develop.
